Asa Merritt is a novelist and short story writer who was born in the Northwestern United States.
Prior to focusing on literary fiction, Asa wrote plays, screenplays, and magazine features. His plays have been performed in New York, Paris, and Rhode Island. As a Texas correspondent for VICE SPORTS, Asa wrote features about the intersection of sports and culture. Asa is the writer of several short films, as well as the audio drama Six Sermons, the award-winning Audible Original, starring Stephanie Hsu. Asa founded Diario de Terror, a Spanish-language horror writing and performance collective, with biannual shows in Mexico City.
The first chapter of his forthcoming novel Orion was published in the Hawaii Pacific Review. Asa attended the McCormick Writing Center Workshop (formerly known as Tin House).
Asa studied at Columbia University, CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and Facultad de Cine, a film school in Mexico City, where he now lives.
