Asa Merritt is a novelist and short story writer who was born in the Northwestern United States. He studied at Columbia University, Brooklyn College, CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and Facultad de Cine, a film school in Mexico City, where he now lives.
Prior to focusing on literary fiction, Asa wrote plays, screenplays, and journalism. His plays have been performed in New York, Paris, and Rhode Island. His sports reporting for VICE SPORTS was included on journalism syllabi. Asa is the writer of several short films, as well as the audio drama Six Sermons, the award-winning Audible Original, starring Stephnie Hsu. Asa founded Diario de Terror, a Spanish-language horror writing and performance collective, with biannual shows in Mexico City.
The first chapter of his forthcoming novel, Orion was published in the Hawaii Pacific Review. Asa attended the McCormick Writing Center Workshop (formerly known as Tin House).
